Boxing Day: Early start for a short trip around Ålfjell from Vasetstua, our X-mas residence. Spent two hours playing around in the powder snow of Winter Wonderland while taking in the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Eventhough the sun has trouble getting up in these parts around X-mas, the views become truly spectacular when it does manage to show itself! The wind on top of the mountain is less shy and leaves incredible creations of snow and ice (see photo). In our opinion the wind has made a nice copy of Sam the Eagle (Muppet show). This tastes like more!

From Valdresstua we wish everyone a lovely X-mas with family& friends, some lovely food and maybe.... Some presents!
Below a short impression of our home-made Norwegian 'matbord' (=buffet) with local delicacies. Obviously our 4-legged companions are enjoying the fireplace;-)

Venabu
What to do when you have given yourself a premature X-mas present: a tent capable of handling winter conditions?...Right, find some serious winter conditions.
One of our favorite areas in Norway is Rondane, and in particular a place called Venabu. You always get a warm welcome from Lars and Haldis at Venabu høyfjell hotell!
So after saturday on the tracks, we found a perfect spot for a night in the snow. Would say our new gear passed the test ( it damn well should, this is the same tent as used on Antarctica)
Today was truly the cherry on the cake with a tour around Veslefjellet: no tracks cut, just us and masses of fresh powder snow. The silence is enourmous, the views breathtaking. The only sound that broke the silence was the incidental snow drop into the Dørfallet crevasse.
Whish I could be there longer, a lot longer...
Cheers, from Oslo (back again)

Snow fun at Lygna
Today we took a small road trip to Lygna and the surrounding hills of Hadelandsåsen. Great snow conditions with some 30-40cm snow depth.
First proper outing since a week full of minor - but not less annoying- bodily discomfort for me (B). But great to be out again. Made plans for some more serious km's next week and a bit of testing of other new gear...

First Post
Lets start off with a few snapshots of yesterday's ski tour in Nordmarka.
Great winter conditions. Clear skies and some serious minus degrees (-12 to -14). Bit more snow would have been nice, but that will surely come.
Season has started for sure! More posts to follow!
